Sex is an enjoyable and important element of a couple relationship.

All couples go through phases where they don’t have the time or energy for regular sex. It’s natural to want better sex and sometimes there are specific psychological or medical reasons for your difficulties.

Sex is a very personal thing, and talking about it can be embarrassing, but talking is often the best thing you can do to improve your sex life. Don’t be embarrassed about it – talk to us.

What is Sex Therapy?

Sex Therapy can help you if you’re experiencing difficulties in your love life and can help you to improve physical intimacy.

Our sex therapists see thousands of people just like you. Working with a Relate Sex Therapist will help you to work out how to handle the problems you’re having and find a way to move on from them.

What can I expect in Sex Therapy?

Your first appointment is an assessment and you’ll be seen by a sex therapist who will listen sensitively to your description of the problem and gather further information from you to ensure that any suggested treatment meets your needs.

If at this stage Sex Therapy is considered appropriate you will be given a form to complete that gives your available days and times for ongoing appointments. You will then go on to our waiting list and once we have an ongoing appointment that meets your availability you will start to see your sex therapist on a weekly basis. All of the work you do in the therapy room is based on talking, however, you are also given homework to do with your partner in the privacy of your own home.

Clients are often amazed at the progress they make and how well they get on with their therapist, once they are over the initial nervousness of talking frankly about their sex life.

How can Sex Therapy help me?

Sex Therapy is incredibly rewarding and the majority of couples who’ve used the service said that it improved their sex life.

If you’ve stopped having sex, this programme can help you to rediscover it.

If sexual problems are preventing you from starting a family, sex therapy can address the psychological and physical issues and help you to conceive.

Whether you’re single, married or in a relationship, gay, lesbian or straight, Sex Therapy can help you to improve your sex life and to overcome any specific sexual dysfunctions.

“I think it’s part of being British that we live with major sexual problems and are simply too embarrassed to get any kind of help. The great thing with Relate sex therapists is that there is nothing you can say that will shock us – we know how complicated sexual problems can be and we know how difficult it is to open up to your partner about them” – Relate Therapist
